When I am wrong I admit it. I was wrong. Washington’s Domestic partnership bill does seem to be ahead of Oregon’s halted registration. In Wahington’s DP registration provides 9 of the 1049 rights granted to heterosexual married couples. Don’t get me wrong they are good rights, but most are things that can be handled with a will and a living will. For us the benefits do not outweigh the problems it could cause with financial aid. So Our registration will have to wait until I finish school . We reserve the right to change our minds about this at any time.
Below is a list of rights DP’s receive in the state of WA. It is important to note that DP status is not limited to the LGBT community but also allows for heterosexuals to register as domestic partners instead of marrying.
Generally, Chapter 156, 2007 Laws of Washington gives registered domestic partners rights to:
- Hospital visitation with their partner
- Participate in medical care decisions and receive health care information
- Administer the estate of a deceased partner
- Be recognized as a domestic partner on a deceased partner’s death certificate
- Authorize autopsies and anatomical gifts, and receive autopsy results
- Sue for wrongful death of their partner
- Inherit property from their partner and to administer their partner’s estate in the absence of a will.
- Burial in a plot owned by a domestic partner.
- Same sex partners receiving benefits through the Public Employee Benefit Board may be eligible for health insurance benefits.
Kudos to Washington State. Now can we get a pro-gay marriage bill passed?

This is very informative. It is important to note that progress, even incremental progress, is still progress.
